'No One Else'
My goal in creating this piece was not to be political, but to shed light on necessary topics. The concept stemmed from Medusa in Greek mythology and Lilith in Jewish folklore, both of which are modern day symbols of women’s rights and justice, and early accounts of violence against women. For one snake I chose purple, the colour representing women’s rights and domestic violence, and for the other I chose teal, the colour representing sexual assault awareness. Spanning the perimeter is a display of external dialogue and internal monologue portraying victim blaming and guilt. I chose to configure this as a spiral to be representative of a shame spiral or panic. On top of the dialogue I added a few short phrases of strength and resistance to empower women to fight for their rights.
More art is on the way!
