‘Silent City’ showcases Chicago, St. Louis, and New York City. I selected this name for the collection because I like to think about photographs as being distinct moments in time. While we can’t stop it we can capture a specific moment forever. When a picture is taken everything is eternally frozen exactly as it was. This is my favourite aspect of city photography, a bustling, vibrant city is turned forever silent with the click of a button.
With these photographs I wanted to capture the innocence and unbothered essence of nature. In ‘Forlorn’ I wanted to portray how desolate trees become in the Winter, but in spring they are prepared to be reborn. For ‘Time Machine’ I hoped to capture an image as if it was being perceived from inside a Viewmaster. I chose the title ‘Her Awakening’ for the image of the Aurora Borealis, as Aurora is the goddess of dawn in Roman mythology.
‘Peculiar Perception’ toys around with a few different elements. My goal was to capture the versatility of photography. I knew I wanted to include distorted components, neon lighting, and cinematic portraits. In ‘Dichotomy’ I aimed to encapsulate the multifaceted tendency of us as humans. I chose the title ‘Iridescent Flare’ to portray the ever changing nature of what we perceive as beautiful.
